The School of Applied Business Science (SABS) is the education and training arm of BSG International — a 35-year consulting practice built inside real organizations, tested against real problems, and refined through more than 200,000 hours of application. We teach organizations and individuals a proven methodology for building quality infrastructure from the inside out, without pausing operations.
This is not a seminar. It is not a certification you frame and forget. It is a structured, living system your team learns, owns, and sustains — permanently.
Origin
In October 1990, Bruce Snell was asked by the CEO of a Fortune 500 company to develop a quality pilot program for its 1,000-dealer network. The existing system was failing under real-world conditions — employees were frustrated, and leadership couldn't understand why decades of expensive consulting programs weren't working.
Bruce discovered the answer: those programs were too complex, too abstract, and completely disconnected from how people actually work. So he built something different — something that started with people first, grounded in the belief that every person, regardless of background, education level, or position, deserves the structure and opportunity to grow.
What emerged became BaseWork Systems™ — and eventually, the School of Applied Business Science.
More than 35 years ago, I envisioned a system that could build people up regardless of where they came from. The systems were never the point. The people always were.
Vision
Bruce observed something early in his work that would define everything that followed: when skilled employees left an organization, they took the company's knowledge with them. There was no system to capture it, no way to transfer it, and no structure to teach it to the next person. Organizations were losing their intelligence every time they lost a person.
His answer was the University of Tomorrow™ — the idea that every workplace could become a living learning system. That every BaseWork Center™ could be a learning center. That every employee could become a Leader-of-One, responsible for the science of their own work. And that common sense, given the right structure, could become common practice.
That vision is the foundation of everything SABS teaches.
Foundation
Before methodology. Before curriculum. Before systems. There are two rules. Every program SABS teaches begins here.
Do what is morally and ethically correct.
Treat others as you wish to be treated.
These are not slogans. They are operational standards — embedded into hiring, communication, customer relationships, and every agreement an organization makes.
Framework
Every SABS program is built on four interlocking pillars. None stands alone — each reinforces the others, so that values are not slogans, ethics is not a poster, and creativity is not an afterthought.
Through BaseValues™, principles become measurable standards embedded in hiring, communication, and customer practice — reducing misconduct and building trust at every level.
Ethics functions as a decision-making framework, not a compliance checklist. SABS builds self-regulating cultures grounded in integrity and moral courage — organizations that do the right thing even when no one is watching.
Values and ethics are translated into measurable outcomes through systems thinking, cross-training, and continuous improvement. This is where principle becomes repeatable process.
The pillar no other quality framework has. Creativity, empathy, and design thinking — taught through storytelling, cultural competence, and applied problem-solving. This is what makes organizations human, not just efficient, and what sustains innovation after the training ends.
Principles
These are not processes. They are a posture — the way a quality organization carries itself every day.
A professional commitment is a definitive pledge. Every agreement is honored with full transparency and accountability — no hidden agendas, no double standards. When the CEO follows the same procedures as every other team member, the organization learns what integrity actually looks like.
We reject the model of unrelenting output that produces burnout and short-term results. High-performance organizations run on intentional cycles of execution, rest, and reflection. This is not a soft idea — it is how teams sustain quality improvement over 26 months and beyond, without losing people in the process.
Excellence is not a department — it is a state of the whole organization. Every BaseWork Center™ is connected to the next. Every role affects every other role. When people, processes, and culture are aligned under a single shared vision, quality stops being a program and becomes the way things actually work.
How It's Delivered
The program runs while your organization operates. No production stoppages, no multi-day offsites, no pulling teams off the floor. Improvement happens inside the work — not parallel to it.
Self-paced curriculum on Digital Chalk. Start immediately. Best for distributed teams and individual learners.
A SABS coordinator at your facility. Best for organizations building from scratch with hands-on support.
Online foundation with periodic on-site support. The right fit for most mid-market organizations.
~20% of your workforce masters the curriculum and teaches it forward
Applied directly to real work — not pulled away from it

Standards & Credentialing
SABS is a private, independently operated institution. We are self-accredited — which means our standards are set by us, measured by outcomes, and not outsourced to a credentialing body that has never seen your organization operate.
We believe this is more honest, not less. A certification that requires demonstrating competency — through documented artifacts, completed phases, and measurable change in your organization — is more meaningful than a credential earned by attending a course.
Upon completing the program phases, your organization and team members receive an Applied Business Science Certificate issued directly by the School of Applied Business Science. Here is what that certificate actually represents:
Each phase produces written procedures, defined BaseWork Centers™, and documented processes — real organizational assets, not course notes.
The Certificate is awarded for what an organization can do, not what it can recite. Skills are applied to live work — not tested in a simulated environment.
Training Leadership — your own people — masters the curriculum and teaches it forward. When SABS leaves, the system does not leave with us.
Our credentials are backed by results inside Fortune 500 companies, mid-market firms, nonprofits, government agencies, and educational institutions.
A note on Phases 1–2: This website sells Phases 1 and 2 of a seven-phase curriculum — the 26-month foundational program. Phases 3–7 represent a continued deepening of the methodology for organizations ready to go further. See the full curriculum overview →

Who This Serves
The methodology works across size, sector, and circumstance. The four barriers — fear of expression, poor communication, lack of procedures, and no formal training — appear in every type of organization. Here is where SABS has been applied:
15–30% annual growth; building infrastructure to sustain it
Reaching the next level; a model for scaling without chaos
Pre-acquisition review, transitions, and system integration
Leadership succession, accountability systems, growth from within
Succession planning, ownership transitions, and family heirs
Leaders, managers, and consultants enrolling independently

Our Quality Standard
Quality is patient, quality is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Quality does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Quality never fails.
This is not a tagline. It is the ethical standard against which we measure everything — our curriculum, our relationships with clients, and ourselves. Quality is not what we produce. It is who we are.
